Siesta

A luxury villa connected with permaculture

In the hills of Siesta, Ibiza, a beautifully designed garden surrounds a casita, blending sustainability with Mediterranean charm.

Guided by permaculture principles, the space features vibrant bougainvillea at the entrance and a thoughtful mix of fruit trees like lemon, fig, and apricot. Passion fruit vines, Mimosa, and Falsa Pimienta add color, fragrance, and shade. Resilient plants such as Ricino, Oleander, and Eucalyptus ensure year-round vitality. Wisteria drapes the house in purple elegance.

This garden is not just ornamental, it’s a living, self-sustaining ecosystem that reflects harmony with nature, designed to thrive beautifully and responsibly in the Ibiza landscape.

Client Spotlight: Rutger van Zuidam

"Andrew and his team did the landscape design and construction of my organic garden and also arranged the maintenance. This all ran smoothly and the price/quality is great. The garden maintenance is also flexible and high-quality."

The Garden Plan

This section of the garden surrounds a small casita and sits on a gently sloping terrain with limited sunlight and close neighbours nearby. To manage water runoff and support the natural landscape, we created small terraced levels using local materials like stones and branches, a subtle, sustainable solution that holds moisture and prevents erosion.

Designer Andrew

Over time, Andrew and Rutger built a connection. Andrew shared his passion for gardening, his approach, and the joy it brought him. Rutger, also an entrepreneur, was inspired and gave him the opportunity. The results? They speak louder than words.

Measurements & Design

Above you see the first sketch/layout of the Siesta garden, a thoughtful division of space around the main house and pool. Curious how we design gardens like this? Discover our process and methods on the Landscape design page.

Planting

The planting palette was chosen specifically for shade tolerance and low water needs. All plants are selected for their adaptability and visual harmony in a shaded, layered garden space, such as Nispero, Lemon, Ricino and Eucalyptus.

Budget

This garden was planned with the natural rhythm of the seasons in mind. Because there was time for the plants to grow and establish gradually, we were able to use young trees and smaller plants, a budget-friendly choice that allowed the garden to mature beautifully over two years. Here’s a breakdown of the main cost components that made this garden transformation possible.

No heavy machinery was needed, except for a crane truck used to deliver soil to higher areas efficiently, with only minimal additional cost.

Timeline

Below you’ll find the full timeline of this project, from the first meeting and design steps to the garden works and the start of ongoing maintenance. A clear overview of how we turn ideas into living landscapes.

Gardeners

This garden is relatively small and low-maintenance. A Junior Gardener visits once a month for about two hours to take care of essential upkeep. The overview below shows the type of gardener involved and the estimated monthly time required.

Each garden we maintain is assigned a dedicated point of contact, an Expert Gardener who oversees the work and handles all communication. For this garden, that’s Alberto.

Calculations

Water Needed

Water needs depend on sun exposure, plant type, and season, sunny areas can require 20–40% more water than shaded ones. In the first year, gardens need more frequent watering; after that, usage stabilises. Mulch helps reduce evaporation by up to 30% and retain soil moisture. Trees typically need 50–200 litres/week, while shrubs and perennials use 3–6 litres/plant/week during dry periods. Drip systems use 5–8 L/m²/week, versus 8–12 for manual watering.

The best time to plant is from autumn to spring, allowing roots to settle before summer. Water use for this garden is shown on the right. Want to estimate your own garden’s needs? Use our calculator.
