A GARDEN FOR THE SENSES

Aromatic Gardens - Designed to Smell, Taste & Thrive

An aromatic garden is a small, functional ecosystem where Mediterranean herbs and perennials grow together in harmony. In syntropic and permaculture practice, these plants are selected for resilience, fragrance, and ecological value; lavender, rosemary, salvia, mint, thyme, and hierba luisa act as pioneers, enriching the soil, attracting pollinators, and creating a healthy microclimate. By combining upright, mounding and groundcover forms, the herb garden becomes naturally self-supporting, retaining moisture and reducing the need for maintenance.More than a collection of herbs, an aromatic garden offers daily abundance: fresh flavours for cooking, leaves for teas and natural remedies, and a steady presence of scent through the seasons. Over time it evolves into a calm, productive corner of the landscape, that is not only beautiful, but low-maintenance and deeply connected to the Mediterranean nature.

Rooted in the Island, Ibiza's Gardens

Ibiza’s landscape is naturally aromatic. The scent of pine, thyme, and rosemary defines its hillsides and coastlines. By working with these native and adapted species, we design gardens that echo the island’s character and withstand its dry summers.

Aromatic and herb gardens fit seamlessly into both contemporary and traditional settings, from terraces and courtyards to larger rural plots. They embody the Mediterranean way of living: close to nature, seasonal, and full of sensory richness.

A Mediterranean Aromatic Garden

For one of our clients, we designed this aromatic garden as an intimate, productive planting system where Mediterranean herbs, perennials and special crops grow together in natural layers. Within a compact 10 m² space, the garden combines structure, fragrance and year-round usability. Fast-establishing species such as lavanda dentata, salvia leucantha and rosemary create the foundation, bringing texture, scent and a continuous source of fresh growth for harvesting.

Around them, a carefully selected mix of culinary and aromatic plants - including lavender, rosemary, sage, mint, thyme and lemon verbena - fills the middle and lower layers. These plants combine beauty with everyday use, while creating dense planting that helps protect the soil and retain moisture. Different heights and growth habits create a small living ecosystem that also provides valuable habitat and food for pollinators.

By combining aromatics and perennials thoughtfully, the garden remains relatively easy to maintain while staying productive throughout the seasons. Regular harvesting encourages new growth, while seasonal pruning during our garden visits helps maintain its structure and resilience. The result is a lush Mediterranean herb garden that brings fragrance, flavour, biodiversity and a natural sense of abundance to a relatively small space.

From Planting Plan to Aromatic Garden

Every aromatic garden is designed around the space, sunlight and how you want to use it. From selecting culinary and aromatic species to preparing the soil, irrigation and planting, we create a tailored garden that is beautiful, productive and easy to enjoy throughout the year.

Space & Planting Plan

We start by understanding the available space, sunlight and growing conditions. From there, we create a planting concept that determines the layout, quantities and combinations of plants.

Herbs & Aromatics

Culinary herbs, aromatic plants and selected perennials are combined for fragrance, flavour and seasonal interest. Species are chosen to complement each other and suit Ibiza’s Mediterranean conditions.

Plants, Soil & Irrigation

We source the plants and prepare everything needed for healthy establishment, including substrate, compost and other natural soil inputs. Efficient irrigation is incorporated according to the size and needs of the garden.

Planting & Garden Care

The garden is prepared, planted and irrigated, bringing the concept to life. Ongoing seasonal care, pruning and harvesting can then be incorporated into our garden visits to keep the aromatic garden healthy and productive.

What determines the cost of an Aromatic Garden?

Every aromatic garden is tailored to the available space, planting concept and how the garden will be used. We calculate the investment across the plants, materials, irrigation and work required to establish it.

1. Plant Material includes the selected herbs, aromatic plants and perennials, with quantities adapted to the size and desired density of the garden.

2. Soil & Materials include substrate, compost and any additional natural inputs needed to prepare and improve the growing conditions.

3. Irrigation is designed around the planting layout to provide efficient, targeted watering while keeping water consumption low.

4. Labour & Installation covers preparation, sourcing, planting, irrigation and coordination - everything required to bring the garden from concept to completion.

Once established, seasonal maintenance and harvesting can be incorporated into our regular garden visits, keeping the garden healthy, productive and evolving throughout the year.

maintenance & harvest

Aromatic basket

As the aromatic garden grows and stabilises, it develops a continuous cycle of fresh herbs and fragrant perennials throughout the year. During our maintenance visits, we take care of the pruning and harvesting, selecting healthy, seasonal aromatics directly from the different layers of the garden.

All harvested herbs are gathered with care and delivered to your home - weekly or monthly - so you can enjoy the full abundance and fragrance of your aromatic garden without any effort.
